Queer Spectrum Film Festival 2024:
A Groundbreaking Celebration of LGBTQIA+ PoC Narratives
On April 27, 2024, the Queer Spectrum Film Festival made history at the Project Arts Centre in Dublin as Ireland’s first LGBTQIA+ PoC film festival. This sold-out event was a resounding success, marking a significant milestone in amplifying the voices and stories of LGBTQIA+ individuals of color.
A key moment in the journey of Queer Asian and PoC Ireland (QAPI), the festival provided a platform to showcase the lived experiences, struggles, and triumphs of LGBTQIA+ PoC communities through cinema. The event drew a remarkably diverse audience, with 70% of attendees identifying as LGBTQIA+ immigrants, including 10 asylum seekers for whom this was their first mainstream cultural experience in Ireland.
The festival featured a total of 28 films from around the world, each shedding light on the richness and complexity of LGBTQIA+ PoC experiences. The thoughtfully curated selection of films underscored themes of identity, resilience, love, and belonging, fostering conversations that resonated deeply with the audience.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors and partners whose unwavering support made this festival possible: The Rowan Trust, The One Foundation, LGBT Ireland, the Irish Network Against Racism (INAR), and our valued friends at the GAZE International LGBTQIA+ Film Festival.
Special thanks go to: Project Arts Centre, Cian O’Brien, Jaime Nanci, Michael Barron, Greg Thorpe, Sridhar Rangayan, Saagar Gupta, Dublin LGBTQ Pride CLG
The Queer Spectrum Film Festival has set a new precedent for inclusive storytelling in Ireland, and we look forward to continuing this journey in the years to come.
